enJOY arts – First in the Fight – Performance at Heaton Park by the lake

July 22, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

Join enJOY arts and Herizons Creative Women’s Group for ‘First in the Fight’ – a celebratory performance commemorating Heaton Park’s proud suffragette history!

We’ll be meeting by the lake to recreate moments from an historic suffrage rally held at the park, before inviting you to join us in marching to the very spot where Emmeline Pankhurst obstructed a tram as part of the campaign. With rousing original songs and captivating drama, this free community performance is sure to re-ignite the radical in all of us, while celebrating those strong Manchester women who were first in the fight!

Herizons is a community performance group of local women who meet every week for free to attend music and drama workshops at Elizabeth Gaskell’s House. Some members of the group first came together to devise and perform Gaskell: The Musical! – a sell out sensation at Manchester Histories Festival 2016 – and we are pleased to have welcomed new members along the way. Other performances since then include Strong Manchester Women, Legends of Lyme at Lyme Hall and The Story of Our Lives celebrating 70 years of the NHS. Herizons sessions are delivered by enJOY arts and Claire Mooney, in partnership with Elizabeth Gaskell’s House.

‘First in the Fight’ is presented in partnership with Heaton Park Tramway Museum. For this performance Herizons will be joined by Friends of Wythenshawe Hall.

The performance is part of the Her Hidden Histories project, made possible by funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
