Bike Ride – Esther Roper and Eva Gore-Booth: Living and Loving in Manchester in the 1890’s

This 8 mile cycle tour traces the lives two fascinating women who made a unique contribution to the causes of women’s suffrage and women’s trade unions during their years in Manchester. Esther Roper was one of the first women to graduate from Manchester University and was the secretary to the North West Suffrage Society. Eva Gore-Booth left her family home in Sligo to live and work with Esther in Manchester and made her mark in the Women’s Trade Union movement as well as being a poet and playwright. The tour is mostly on city roads but with a short section on the River Medlock Path.
